Scott Equipment requests hearing on easement

The New Prague City Council unanimously approved a resolution setting a public hearing on Monday, Feb. 6, concerning a sanitary sewer easement near Scott Equipment. At the council’s Tuesday, Jan. 3, meeting Lucas Properties - New Prague, LLC, owner of Scott Equipment at 604 Fourth Ave. NW, requested a small portion of the easement be vacated. The request is to allow for an addition to the business’ building.

The easement for the sanitary sewer pipe zig zags and the portion near the proposed addition is south and east of Scott Equipment’s main building. City Planning Director Ken Ondich explained the addition would be roughly square and would go into the southeast corner of the building. The addition is 48 feet by 48 feet, just under 2,400 square feet, and would go two feet into the easement. The pipe, which is about three feet down in the ground, will be no less than 10 feet from the edge of the building. Ondich recommended introducing an ordinance for the vacation at the council’s January 3 meeting as a first reading.
