Shirley Schneider, 55

Shirley A. Schneider, age 55, of New Prague, died Monday, September 2, 2013, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN.

Shirley was born October 21, 1957 in New Prague to George W. & Irene A. (Moravec) Shimota. She attended New Prague High School and Ritter Beauty College. Shirley married Neil Schneider on May 21, 1977 in Veseli, MN and the couple made their home in New Prague, where Shirley worked for 37 years as a hair stylist and most recently as the owner and operator of Artistic Edge Hair and Day Spa. On February 4, 2013, Shirley was diagnosed with ALS; she was a caregiver and humble and carried her disease with grace until the end. Though the disease rapidly took her body, she did not want ALS to define her. Shirley would like her funeral to celebrate her life. She enjoyed spending time at the cabin, flowers, gardening, and canning.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Neil of New Prague; son, Jesse (Katie Hoffman) of New Prague; daughter, Lindsay (& Tom) Gantert of Denver, CO; grandson, Thomas Gantert; father, George Shimota of New Prague; siblings, Ann Shimota of Lakeville, Theresa (& Joe) Pemrick of Faribault, Irene (& Larry) Jindra of Montgomery, Bob Shimota of New Prague, Tom Shimota of Portland, OR; mother- in-law Adeline Schneider of New Prague.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Irene Shimota; sisters, Susan Christine Shimota (in infancy), and Marlene Shimota Frank.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, September 6, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Father Kevin Clinton officiating. Visitation will occur Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday morning from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.
