Skating Club to host Spring Show this weekend
The New Prague Area Figure Skating Club will present "Be Our Guest" at the New Prague Area Community Center at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 19, and 1 p.m. Sunday, March 20. This year’s Spring Show is the result of the help of many people.
The program will have members of the club skate through their version of "Beauty and the Beast," which is based on the popular Disney movie. The show not only consists of songs from the original "Beauty and the Beast," it also has modern day songs that help tell the club’s version of the story.
Guest Skaters
Taking part in the production are three guest skaters, Nicole Peterson and pairs team Anika Olson and Mitchel Markkanen. Peterson portrays Belle at the beginning and Olson and Markkanen will, respectively, be Belle and the Prince at the end of the performance.
Since 2010, Peterson has competed and placed from the final round to second place in at least eight competitions, which have included the Minnesota State: Pre-Juvenile, Juvenile, Novice and Junior competition and Upper Great Lakes Regionals.
Olson and Markkanen are 2016 Midwestern Sectional Intermediate Pairs competitors and 2016 US National Intermediate Pairs competitors. In 2016, they met their season's goal of placing in the top 10 in the country by finishing ninth overall at the US Nationals held in Bloomington in January.
Show Preparations
Five soloists from the club are included in the show this year. Alison Weber, Abby Knutson, Morgan Brandt, Bella Schulte and senior skater Lilly Schulte, among many other skaters, make up duets trios and quartets.
