Snow Drifters preparing for another winter season
In spite of several years of poor snow conditions in the area, the New Prague Snow Drifters recently met to begin making plans for the upcoming snowmobile season.
Provided there is enough snow to groom, trails will open statewide on December 1 and close on March 31.
Two activities to raise money to support the trails are already scheduled. The first, a Trail Maintenance Fund Raiser will be held Friday, Dec. 1, at the Union Hill Bar, while the annual breakfast will be held just two days later on Sunday, Dec. 3 at the KC Hall in New Prague.
The club also voted to purchase $1,500 dollars in New Prague Czechs for distribution to local landowners who allow the trails on their property.
According to club president Kurt Wann, without the cooperation of landowners there would be no trails.
Virtually all of the trails in the southern part of the state are on privately owned land. Each year our trail coordinators visit with landowners to secure their permission for a trail across their property. Ongoing development in our area is making it quite a challenge from year to year
