Softball team drops final 3 games

New Prague dropped its final three games of the regular season last week, falling to Prior Lake, Shakopee and Holy Angels. A game with Northfield was cancelled, since no dates were available to make up the game.

The Trojans entered Section 2AAA competition Tuesday, losing to New Ulm 2-0 and defeating Waseca 4-1. Details on those games will be in next week’s issue of The Times.

Lakers 3, Trojans 0

Katie Gerdes broke up a no-hit bid by Prior Lake’s Abby Borchardt, with a leadoff single in the seventh inning, as New Prague fell to the Lakers by a 3-0 score.

Borchardt and Katie Trewartha engaged in a pitchers' duel, with the Lakers getting only three hits off Trewartha. However, a pair of errors led to two unearned runs for Prior Lake.

Trewartha retired the first 11 batters she faced before giving up a two-out single in the fourth inning. The next batter hit a shot to center field that was misplayed, and led to the Lakers’ first run.

In the fifth a walk and another error led to another run, and the Lakers’ final run came in the sixth, on two hits and a walk.

New Prague had just two base runners through the first six innings, with Ashley Feneis drawing a leadoff walk in the second and Kacy Ambroz getting a two out walk in the sixth.

Gerdes’ hit in the seventh was followed by a Feneis walk. But Borchardt struck out the next batter, and Gerdes was thrown out trying to steal third. Borchardt got the third out on a strikeout, her 13th of the game, ending the Trojan threat.

Trewartha gave up just three hits and one earned run, while striking out two and walking two.
