Softball team drops two

The New Prague Trojan softball team lost two Missota Conference games this past week, to Farmington and Northfield. Their April 19 game with Chanhassen was postponed to May 20.

The Trojans were scheduled to face Holy Angels Wednesday, April 27. They will host Chaska Friday, April 29.

New Prague plays at Shakopee on Tuesday, May 3, and hosts Red Wing Thursday, May 5.

Tigers 10, Trojans 5

Farmington scored four runs in the top of the first and never trailed as they defeated New Prague 10-5 at New Prague Thursday, April 21.

The Trojans scored a run in the first when Kelsey McFarland reached on a fielder's choice, and scored on an error. Trailing 5-1, the Trojans pulled to within a run, scoring three in the bottom of the third. Amber Hoffman got one-out single and stole second. McFarland singled and stole second, then Rochelle Koehnen tripled to drive in two runs. Koehnen scored on Katie Olson's sacrifice fly.

The Trojans other run came in the fourth when Kelsey Munson reached on an error, stole second and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ali Jo Hoffman.

Amber Hoffman pitched for the Trojans, allowing 10 runs and six hits. She struck out five.

New Prague had seven hits, with Amber Hoffman, McFarland and Koehnen getting two each and Olson one.

Raiders 7, Trojans 1

Despite the 7-1 loss, Coach Pat Perkinson said the Trojans game against Northfield Monday, April 25, was one of their better showings of the season.

The Trojan had 11 hits and committed no errors in the field. However, they weren't able to bunch their hits together and managed just a single run.

The Raiders scored three times in the fourth inning and twice more in the fifth and sixth.

New Prague's only run came after Courtney Wolf singled with two outs in the seventh. Ali Jo Hoffman ran for her, then Amber Hoffman, Munson and McFarland all reached base. McFarland got the RBI, scoring Ali Jo, but Amber Hoffman was thrown out at home for the final out of the game.

Amber Hoffman pitched six innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs while striking out two.

McFarland had three of the Trojans 11 hits, while Amber Hoffman and Olson had two each. Other hits were from Munson, Megan Dyslin, Ali Jo Hoffman and Wolf.
