Spikers look to get back on winning track

By Chuck Kajer

Last season coach Pauline Mankowski had only her second losing season in 10 years as head volleyball coach at New Prague High School. She feels that this year's team will be able to tip the scales back to the winning side.

The Trojans had 27 girls come out in grades 10-12, and added three more freshmen for a total of 30 players on the top three squads.

Six seniors lead this year's squad, with three-year starter Cathy Turner among them. Turner was the Trojans' lone all-conference player last year, and has given a verbal commitment to attend Division I Wisconsin-Green Bay next season.

Four other players lettered last year, including middle hitter Kristin Busch, setter Sara Gerold, and outside hitters Katie Tikalsky and Katie Theisen. All are seniors except Tikalsky, who is a junior.

Others on this year's varsity include seniors Megan Bastyr and Jessie Doig and juniors Katelyn Proshek, Karen Sauer, Mandy Haecherl and Camille Kratochvil.

We've got a lot of experience back
