Summertime is here

The calendar may not say it for three more weeks, but summertime has arrived in Minnesota.

People are going to the lakes or on vacation, enjoying their yards, working in the garden and lawns and finding ways to enjoy the warm summer weather.

Minnesota offers so many opportunities during the summertime. A visit to one of the many state parks can provide a variety of opportunities, from camping, swimming, picnics or just a quiet afternoon away from the hectic pace of work.

If you’re not into quiet, consider going to a Twins or Saints baseball game, watch the Minnesota Lynx WNBA team or the Minnesota United pro soccer team. or, nearby, Elko Speedway or Canterbury Park If you enjoy sports, but don’t have the budget, check out one of the area amateur baseball teams in the Dakota-Rice- Scott League. Admission is reasonable and a trip to the concession stand won’t require you to fill out a loan application.

Minnesota has many summer festivals. Some of the area festivals include Sauerkraut Festival in Henderson, Fire and Rescue Days in Elko New Market, Lakefront Days in Prior Lake, Community Days in Lonsdale and Kolacky Days in Montgomery.

Minnesota has 87 counties, and most of these counties have their own county fair. It’s a chance to get a taste of rural life by touring the cow barns, viewing 4-H exhibits, watching horse shows or enjoying the carnival rides. Rice County and Scott County have their fairs in July, with Le Sueur County holding its fair in August.

There are many other opportunities to learn about our state. Minnesota has so many opportunities for fun, it’s a shame if you don’t find a way to get out and enjoy what’s available. Whether it’s a week, a few days or just a day trip, you’re bound to find something to enjoy.
