Swim team shows improvement

The New Prague Trojan girls swimming and diving team fared well against Waconia and Farmington last week.

While the Trojans lost both meets, they showed tremendous improvement and dedication.

“We have struggled early this season with injuries and illnesses, but these girls give everything they have,” said coach Jennifer Ongie-Jindra.

“This is an interesting combination of individual and team sport. These girls are racing the clock and yet they get points for the team by their individual results. The scores only tell part of the story, and not even a large part of it.”

New Prague lost to Waconia 140-46, and to Farmington 94-82.

Ongie-Jindra said several athletes have already made the section cuts early in the season. They include Abby

Kallal in the 50-yard freestyle, Katherine Reyant in the 100 backstroke, Lilly Schulte in the 200 individual medley and 100 Butterfly and Lindsey Vogel in the 100 butterfly.

“We have many others who are close in a few events,” she noted.

The Trojans were scheduled to swim at Minneapolis Southwest Tuesday. On Thursday they will face Chanhassen at Chaska Mid- dle School West, and on Thursday, Sept. 27, they host Shakopee at the Montgomery pool.
