Swimmers compete at WCC meet

The New Prague Trojans placed seventh of nine teams at the Wright County Conference Swim and Dive Championships Saturday, Oct. 28, at Hutchinson.

The Trojans had 99 points overall, finishing ahead of Litchfield, which had beaten the Trojans during the regular seaosn, and Watertown- Mayer.

"This is a perfect meet to see how well the girls will perform in our section meet." Coach Tracy Torgerson said.

Next for the Trojans will be the Section 2AA meet at Minnetonka East Junior High. This will be the Trojans’ first go at Class AA competition. New Prague had been in Class A since it launched its own program, though the team did compete in Class AA for several years in a cooperative with Montgomery- Lonsdale and Le Center.

Teams competing at the Section meet will be Bloomington Jefferson, Bloomington Kennedy, Chanhassen, Chaska, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, New Prague, Shakopee and Prior Lake.

Highlights from the Conference meet: • Sarah Helvick took ninth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:26.30. • Riley Siegle took 13th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:29.18. • Ellen Popple took third in diving with her best score of the season of 325.05. • Emmalynn Dickerson took sixth in diving with her best score of the season of 296.65. • Bailey Newman took 13th in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:53.61.

Hutchinson claimed the conference title. Other teams, in order of finish, were....
