TCU boys have tough day at section track

In the words of Tri-City United track & field coach Brian Mikel, “We had a tough day.”
The coach was referring to the results from the Section 2A Track & Field Meet held Saturday, June 1 at Mankato West High School.
Between the boys and girls, the Titans had four finishes in third place, with no one advancing to state competition.
The athletes representing the Titan girls finished in eighth place as a team, while the boys, who had qualified 12 competitors out of the subsection meet, were 18th out of 24 respective schools.
The TCU boys did have some good performances in a very competitive field of entrants.
Marty McGuire was third in the 800m run, and the 4x800m relay team finished in sixth place.
Kelly Nordling was 10th in the 400m dash, while John Christian just missed a state birth by finishing third in the 110m hurdles. “John had an outstanding season,” commented coach Mikel.
Michael McCrady was ninth in the long jump event, and Scott McCabe also placed ninth in the high jump.
“The kids worked hard this season and improved a great deal as the year went along,” said the Titan coach. “Hats off to the boys and girls on a great season.”
Top finishing team in the meet was Glencoe-Silver Lake, while the Waseca Bluejays were a close second. Point totals were 85.5 and 85.
