Tennis team ends season at Sections

The Tri-City United Titan Tennis Team ended their season at the Section 2A Individual Tournament played at Gustavus Adolphus College on October 10. None of the Titans advanced to the next round.

#1 singles: Molly Tiede of TCU lost to Katherine Ichinose of Jordan 6-0, 6-4.

TCU Coach Phil Murry said Molly played very well especially in the second set, on top of it being her first match of singles this year.

“She played #1 doubles all year,” Murry said.

#2 singles: Chase Arndt of TCU lost to Carly Brandt of LSH 6-2, 6-2. Murry said this match was actually much closer than the final score.

“Chase was in every game until the end,” he said. “Most of the games went to deuce. This was also Chase’s first singles match of the year. She played mostly #2 and #3 doubles.”

In the #1 doubles Kori Lowe and Courtney Hentges of TCU did well their first set. Lowe and Hentges defeated Rachel Schroers and Katelyn Schmit of Belle Plaine 6-0, 6-1 in the first round.

“Kori and Courtney dominated this match from the beginning,” Murry said.

However, in the quarterfinals, the duo lost to Rachel Menke and Victoria Reed from Jordan with the scores of 7-5, 6-2.

“They played well, they just didn’t hit the ball as well in the second match as they had in the first,” their coach said.

#2 Doubles: Breanna Jaycox and Rosa Ruiz of TCU defeated Carina Larson and Julia Fogarty of Jordan in the first round with the scores of 6-4, 6-2. In the second round they went up against the #1 seed from United South Central, Kia Legred and Lindsey Thisius and were defeated 6-0, 6-0.

“Breanna and Rosa played very well in the first match, especially at the net,” Murry said. “However, in the second match they ran into a very strong team who hit the ball extremely well.”

The Tennis Team’s end of the year party will be on held on October 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the Commons area of the Le Center Elementary and Middle School.
