Teresa Stemmer

 

Teresa Marie (Topic) Stemmer, age 91, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2012 at the Grand Village nursing home in Grand Rapids, MN. Teresa was born on October 26, 1920 in New Prague, Minnesota to Frank and Eleanor (Chromy) Topic. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of Minnesota and received her bachelor’s degree in education. She began her teaching career at Duffny School, a one-room school near Mont- gomery, MN and then in the Shakopee and Burnsville districts in both a teaching and administrative capacity. Her teaching career spanned almost fifty years.

On November 22, 1984, she married the love of her life, Warren Stemmer. They enjoyed twenty one years together gardening, watching baseball, fishing and traveling. Teresa was a lifelong member of Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK), Association of American University Women (AAUW), bridge club, and the church choir at St. Mark’s.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Warren in October of 2005, sister Irene Levar; brother, Edwin Topic; brothers-in-law Robert Trnka and Stanley Levar. She is survived by her sister, Eleanor Trnka and sis-ter-in-law Marian Topic. The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Roger Ralston at the Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital as well as the staff at the Grand Village nursing home for the wonderful care she received. Teresa will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

There will be a memorial mass on Saturday, September 29, 2012, 11:00 AM at the Church of St. Mary, 535 Lewis St. South, Shakopee, Minnesota, followed by a luncheon at St. Mark Catholic Church cafeteria, 2350 Atwood St., Shakopee, with a private family burial to follow. Please direct all memorials to St. Mark Catholic Church or the American Heart Association.
