On third try, Trojans top Tigers
The New Prague Trojan girls tennis team had three chances to beat the Tigers over the past week, and the third time proved to be the charm.
New Prague was overpowered by a strong Delano squad and lost a tight 4-3 decision to Hutchinson in their final two conference duals of the season last week, then in their final dual meet, they defeated Farmington 4-3.
The Trojans finished Wright County Conference East play with a 2-2 record and are 7-6 overall They are scheduled to compete in the conference tournament at Delano on Thursday, Sept. 29. That will end the regular season for the Trojans.
New Prague is scheduled to begin the Section 2AA team tournament Tuesday, Oct. 4. Pairings and locations will be determined this weekend. The Trojans are hoping for a favorable seed and a home match in the first round.
Del. Tigers 7, Trojans 0 Delano dominated the conference match with the Trojans, sweeping all matches in straight sets.
The closest match came at No. 3 doubles, where Lauren Hillstrom and Hannah Bruder lost the first set 6-0, then forced a tiebreaker in the second set before losing.
Other doubles teams were Carly Madigan/Chloe Beuch and Julia Bauer/Haylee Prochaska. Competing in singles were Jenna Lambrecht, Annika Dumoulin, Jenna Larson and Grace Dumoulin. Hutch.
