Time to celebrate!

Welcome to the 82nd annual Kolacky Days celebration.

Inside this edition of the Messenger, you will find a special souvenir pull-out section devoted to this year’s festival. You will find information on the ten candidates who are running for a Kolacky Days title, entertainment for children and adults, and everything you need to know about the festival.

The production of this section, in addition to putting out a regular newspaper is no simple task. It requires planning, execution and some long hours in the office. Thanks to Karen, Jake and our Production Department (Jennifer Leff, Dennis Lambrecht and Linda Beuch) at Suel Printing Co. we pulled it off and created, what I believe, is a top-notch section with a lot of useful information on this year’s festival.

This year’s pageant will feature ten girls who are vying for a Kolacky Days ambassador crown. Good luck girls, and parents! I remember not so many years ago that this was a stressful time for our candidate and for us. When she received her crowns, the next year flew by. It was not only her senior year in high school, which made it extra busy, but we had all of the parades and appearances to attend. So to the parents of the girls who receive a title, enjoy the time because it will speed by.

If there’s one thing that affect a community festival, it is the weather. This weekend looks to be hot. According to Wunderground Weather, a massive dome of high pressure in the upper atmosphere will grip our area this week, providing favorable conditions for dangerously hot temperatures.

On Thursday and Friday, temperatures will reach up to 96 degrees with humidity hovering around 70 percent, making it feel like 107 degrees. Keep hydrated!

On Saturday, temperatures will still get to 90 degrees, but a 60 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorm is real in the afternoon and evening. Grab your umbrellas!

Sunday looks to be a great day with mostly sunny skies and temperatures around 83 degrees. Grab your sunscreen and enjoy the festival!
