Township filing period deadline is Tuesday

The filing period for township elections in five area townships began Tuesday, Dec. 29, and continues until Tuesday, Jan. 12.

Those interested in serving as a town clerk (2-year term) or supervisor (3-year term) can file with their town clerk until 5 p.m. January 12. Interested candidates should arrange to meet with the town clerk before that time to submit their application and pay the filing fee.

Helena, Belle Plaine and Lanesburgh Townships have moved their annual elections to November, to coincide with the general election. They will not be holding elections this spring.

In five other area townships, elections will be held Tuesday, March 9. All townships will hold their annual meetings that evening.

Area townships holding elections include:

Cedar Lake Township-Incumbent clerk Arnita Novotny and supervisor Gerald Williams are up for election and both have filed for another term. If interested in filing contact Arnita Novotny at 952-758-4943.

New Market Township-Incumbent clerk Albert Zweber and supervisor Ken Chlan are up for reelection. So far, Chlan is the only person to file. To file, contact Zweber for an appointment at 952-461-3121.

Derrynane Township-Incumbent clerk Cindy Jirak and supervisor Jim Kroyer have both filed for reelection. Anyone else wishing to file should contact Jirak at 952-758-2027 or 507-357-8299.

Webster Township-Incumbent clerk Todd Elwood and supervisor Joe Horejsi have filed for reelection. Anyone wishing to file can contact Elwood at 507-413-2488 or contact by email at toddandheidi@integra.net

Wheatland Township-Incumbent clerk Clarence Salaba and supervisor Ken Franek are up for reelection. As of press time, neither has filed for reelection. Anyone wishing to file should contact Salaba at 507-744-2274.
