Trojan baseball team long on numbers, short on experience

The New Prague Trojan baseball team is hoping to develop some consistency as they enter the 2006 season.

Last year’s team started off the season with a 9-1 record, but struggled in the second half on its way to an 8-6 Missota Conference record, 12-8 overall.

The team had a number of seniors who played key roles and are now lost to graduation, several of whom are now playing baseball in college.

But the team also has some key players returning and a group of 48 players in grades 10-12, including 26 juniors and seniors, who are eager to show what they can do.

Top returning players are Kyle Bergstrom, Tony Kubes, Adam Gill and Ryan Gebur. Bergstrom was one of the team’s top pitchers last season and also played first base. Kubes, a junior, is a speedy outfielder who hit over .300 on the season. Gill and Gebur played key roles on the team, with Gill playing some first base and Gebur contributing from the mound.

In addition to those four, other returning letter winners are seniors Joe DeLuca, Luke Hanzel, Andrew Mach, Andrew Weiers and juniors Colton Borwege, Andrew Friedges, Matt Perkinson, Aaron Shetka and Ross Skluzacek.

We’ve got a lot of holes to fill from last year’s senior-dominated team
