Trojan baseball team opens section tourney play Saturday
The New Prague Trojan baseball team struggled at the plate last week as they took four losses to conclude the regular season.
New Prague will open the Section 1AAAA playoffs Saturday, May 28. Section seedings were scheduled for Wednesday morning, May 25, after this edition of The New Prague Times went to press. They will be posted at newpraguetimes.com when they are announced.
New Prague hopes to get a No. 4 seed, which would mean a home game. They have wins over Rochester Mayo, Rochester Century and Farmington in the section, but lost to Rochester John Marshall and Owatonna. After Saturday’s game, the tournament continues on Monday, May 30.
Spartans 6, Trojans 1 New Prague managed just five hits in a 6-1 loss to Orono in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday, May 17.
Sam Kjos’ single to right scored Nate Berg in the fifth inning, cutting the Orono led to 5-1.
Taylor Lambrecht, Berg, Frank Bartyzal and Connor Pint got the other Trojan hits.
Pint started and took the loss for the Trojans, with Kjos and Matt Schmitz pitching in relief.
