Trojan boys CC opens strong at Eagan
New Prague's boys cross country team opened its season Friday, Sept. 2, at the Dakota County Classic in Eagan.
“Nice weather and topnotch competition provided a fertile environment for a successful day,” Coach Nick Meyer said. “The Trojans’ returners showed considerable improvement from last year.”
New Prague placed fifth of eight teams. While they failed to put a runner in the top 10, they did have two in the top 20 in Jack Siegle and Hayden DeGross. Siegle finished 19th in 11 minutes, 18 seconds, while DeGross was right behind him in 20th place at 11:19. There were two more Trojans in the top 30 - Justin Cameron (24th, 11:37), and Ryker Huseby (29th, 11:43). Other varsity runners were Carson Davis (42nd, 12:12), Ben Giles (49th, 12:36) and Grant Schapp (50th, 12:38).
“Our veterans are doing an excellent job of progressing from last year, filling new roles, and serving as leaders on the team,” Meyer said.
Trenton Allen of Eagan won the meet in 10:15. The host Wildcats had five of the first seven finishers to claim first place with 20 points, well ahead of Lakeville South’s 43. The rest of the field included Hastings (92), Apple Valley (94), New Prague (127), St. Paul Como Park (192), Richfield (215) and Simley (220).
