Trojan boys edge Hubmen, maul Wildcats

The New Prague Trojan boys basketball team won two very different games last week to push their record to 9-2 on the season. They edged Jordan in a thriller on Tuesday, 56-55, then easily disposed of Waconia 74-54 Friday evening.

New Prague was scheduled to begin its Missota Conference season Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Prior Lake. They return home Friday for a 7:30 p.m. game against Shakopee, then go on the road for a makeup game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Austin. New Prague hosts Holy Angels on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Trojans 56, Hubmen 55

New Prague's Danny Geiger, averaging 20 points a game, was held to a season-low seven points, but it was the seventh point that made the difference.

The junior sank one of two free throws with one second on the clock to give his Trojans a 56-55 win over Jordan Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Both teams had their chances to win this game in the final minute, but it was Geiger who got the ball in the final seconds and went in for a lay-up. He was fouled and made the first of two shots to give the Trojans the win.

Connor O'Brien led the Trojans with 25 points and pulled down 11 rebounds and four steals while Sam Dittberner added 11 and dished out seven assists. Cale Girten had six points coming off the bench.

Also scoring for New Prague were Andy Zweber (3), and Jon Schoenecker and Isaac Cross (2 each).

Trojans 74, Wildcats 54

New Prague's speed and athleticism caused problems all night for Waconia, as the Trojans forced 13 turnovers and scored on a number of fast break baskets to beat the Wildcats 74-54.

New Prague led 31-20 at halftime and jumped on Waconia early in the second half, including two steals and lay-ups by Geiger. New Prague led by as many as 30 points during the second half. Sixteen different players saw action for New Prague.
