Trojan boys place 7th at Hutchinson

The New Prague Trojan boys cross country team placed seventh of nine teams at the Hutchinson Invitational Thursday, Sept. 12, at Lake Marion Park near Hutchinson.

            The meet was an important one for the Trojans since they will see most of the teams in the meet in October at the Section 2AA meet.

            The host Tiger team, ranked No. 5 in the state, won the meet with 44 points, with three of the top four runners. Buffalo was second with 70, followed by Waseca (80), Willmar (85), Marshall (95), Orono (137), New Prague (163), Mankato West (185) and Mankato East (236).

            Hutchinson’s Isaiah Barlow won the 5K race with a time of 15 minutes, 35 seconds. That was 31 seconds faster than the second-place finisher, Shane Streich of Waseca. Barlow is ranked No. 4 in the state.

            Josh Dvorak was the top finisher for New Prague, placing 16th in 17:32. Other Trojans were Dakota Greenwalt (22nd, 17:48), Wyatt Midtvedt (32nd, 18:15), Justin Gregor (45th, 18:45), Cole Minnick (48th, 18:53), Steven Kvam (49th, 18:54) and Kevin Dudley (59th, 20:00).

            “It was a tough field and we knew we had our work cut out for us,” Coach Nick Meyer said. “The team competed hard and we had five personal. records set.”

            In the JV race, New Prague finished sixth of nine teams. Top JV runners were Jack Siegle (26th,  20:05) and Asher Floyd (27th, 20:06).
