Trojan CC teams compete at Hutchinson
With the scheduled New Prague Invitational cross country meet washed out on Tuesday, Sept. 26, due to a wet course, the Trojan cross country teams were able to schedule a meet at Hutchinson on that day.
The meet was actually a makeup date for one that had been cancelled two weeks earlier at Lake Marion Park. The Trojan boys finished fifth of seven teams, while the girls were fifth of five.
The Trojans were scheduled to run in the Victoria Lions Invitational in Chaska Tuesday, Oct. 4. Their next meet is Tuesday, Oct. 11, in Jordan at Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course. That will be their final tuneup before the Wright County East Championships.
Boys results Hayden DeGross was the top Trojan finisher, completing the 5K course in 17 minutes, 57 seconds, good for 18th place. Teammate Jack Siegle was 20th at 18:11. Other Trojan runners were Aiden Dorzinski (24th with a personal best 18:26), Ryker Huseby (30th, 18:35), Noah Weichert (33rd, 18:50), Justin Cameron (26th, 19:03) and Carson Davis (42nd, personal best 19:19).
"A focus for the team today was our ‘pack attack,’" said Coach Nick Meyer. "The boys did well with it, working together to move up in groups of 2 or 3. Pacing is improving, which is leading to stronger finishes. In fact, the Trojans logged a better team average than last fall. All in all, it was a good day for the varsity squad."
In the JV competition, the Trojans had a strong second place finish, with six runners finishing int the top 20, all earning ribbons. Ben Giles, Joe DeJong, Blake Wymer, Grant Schaap, Trevor Prelesnic and Ryan Wetschka all placed in the top 20.
Prior Lake won the varsity meet with 35 points. Marshall was second at 69, followed by Waseca (94), Hutchinson (100), New Prague (125), Willmar (126) and Orono (156).
Colin Dwyer of Prior Lake was medallist, completing the course in 16:26.8, seven seconds ahead of Cole Streich of Waseca.
