Trojan comeback falls short in semifinals

The New Prague Trojan girls basketball team trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half of their state Class AAA semifinal game against Minneapolis North, then staged a comeback that fell one point short. The Trojans lost a 44-43 contest to the Lady Polars.

The game ended with some controversy as Hannah Strop was fouled with seven-tenths of a second remaining. The referee initially signaled that there would be three free throws, saying Strop was fouled while putting up a half-court attempt. After conferring, they ruled she was fouled before the shot and awarded her a one-and-one. Strop missed her first attempt and the rebound fell to the floor, ending the game.

The Trojans (25-5) will take on Totino-Grace (27-4) in the third-place game at 2 p.m. Saturday. The game will be played at Concordia University in St. Paul.
