Trojan girls fall to Tigers, top Fire

The New Prague Trojan girls basketball team split a pair of Wright County Conference games last week. New Prague lost to Hutchinson 61-46 and defeated Holy Family Catholic 51-38.

The Trojans (13-8, 4-2 WCC) return to action Friday, Feb. 10, when they host Orono. They will travel to Delano Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Tigers 61, Trojans 46 Hutchinson, ranked No. 8 in Class A, pounced on the Trojans for an early lead and took a 26-13 lead at halftime.

New Prague battled back and closed the gap to four midway through the second half, but Hutchinson took over down the stretch and and claimed the win.

New Prague shot just 33 percent from the field and just two of 11 three-pointers. They were outrebounded 35- 27 and committed 26 turnovers.

Taylor Hustad and Randi Allar both had 12 points for New Prague, while Emily Schmitz added 11. Others scoring for the Trojans were Emily Russo with six, McKenzie Holgate with four and Keegan Mulvihill with two.

Hustad had six rebounds, five steals and two blocked shots for the Trojans.
