Trojan girls stay unbeaten in Missota

The New Prague Trojan girls hockey team stayed unbeaten in the Missota Conference with a 9-0 win over Red Wing Tuesday, Dec. 19. The Trojans game at Prior Lake, scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 21, was postponed. The Trojans are 4-0-0 in the Missota and 6-3-2 overall, after starting the season 1-3-0.

To make up the game, a change has been made in the Trojans' schedule. The January 26 home game with Prior Lake will now be played at Prior Lake, at 5:15 p.m., as part of a tripleheader, between the boys JV and varsity games. The Trojans will host Prior Lake on Monday, Jan. 22, at 5 p.m.

New Prague (6-3-2) will take part in the Kaposia Classic, an eight-team tournament at South St. Paul, December 29-30 and January 1. The tourney is considered the toughest in the state each year and features seven teams ranked in the top 10 of either Class AA or A, including the top two teams in AA.

Fridays' first round games:

1 p.m.-Stillwater (No. 9 AA) vs. Holy Angels (No. 2 AA

3 p.m.-Eden Prairie (No. 1 AA) vs. New Prague (No. 3 A)

6 p.m.-Roseville (No. 4 AA) vs. Hibbing/Chisholm (No. 4 A)

8 p.m.-North St. Paul vs. South St. Paul (No. 7 A)

Second round games are Saturday and Championship round games are Monday, Jan. 1.

Trojans 9, Wingers 0

New Prague scored early and often against the Wingers as they led 4-0 less than six minutes into the game.

Sam Lijewski was the first to score for the Trojans, getting an unassisted goal at 3:37. Megan Gardow converted on a pass from Kacy Ambroz less than a minute later to make it 20 at 4:26, then Jenna Kilpatrick got in on the action with a goal from Brooke Bartelt at 5:05. Gardow got her second tally on an assist from Brianne Hrabe at 5:26. Britty Smith made it 5-0 at 9:42, with Hallie Paschke getting the assist.

The Trojans scored three more in the second, with Ambroz scoring from Courtney Sivula at 4:15, and Jenna Kilpatrick netting two, at 8:06 with an unassisted power play goal and at 16:54 on an assist from Paschke.

Paschke scored the only goal of the third period, with an assist from Ambroz, at 11:55.

Brittany Sickmann got her third win in three starts in net, stopping all eight shots on goal. New Prague outshot the Wingers 41-8.
