Trojan netters win 2 of 3 at home invitational

New Prague's boys tennis team picked up its first wins of the season last week, winning two of three at the New Prague Invitational. They also lost matches on Tuesday and Friday to Holy Angels and Farmington.

New Prague will host Mankato East on Monday, April 30. On Tuesday, they host Shakopee and Wednesday finds them hosting Faribault.

Stars 7, Trojans 0

Holy Angels dominated their match at New Prague April 17, winning all seven matches in straight sets.

Losing at singles for New Prague were John Cilibrasi, Marty DeValk, Matt Gillen and Marcus Pleiss. Losing in doubles were Josh Meuwissen and Ben Dresow, David McCollister and PJ Smisek, and Drew Smisek and Adam Horejsi.

Gillen had the best match of the bunch, losing 6-2, 7-5.

Tigers 5, Trojans 2

New Prague picked up its first points of the season, but still lost to Farmington by a 5-2 score.

DeValk won his match at No. 3 singles in three sets, 7-6, 0-6, 6-2, and the team of Pleiss and Gillen won at No. 2 doubles 6-3, 6-2.

Trojan losses cam from Andy Kubes, Cilibrasi and McCollister in singles and the teams of Meuwissen and Dresow at No 1 doubles and PJ Smisek and Brad Hartman at No. 3.

Trojans 5, Falcons 2

New Prague got its first win of the season with a5-2 win over Faribault.

The Trojans got three win in singles, from Kubes, Cilibrasi and DeValk, and two in doubles, from the teams of Pleiss and Gillen and from Drew Smisek and Hartman.

Kubes and DeValk had to go to third-set tiebreakers to claim their wins.

Sabers 4, Trojans 3

New Prague almost made it two straight with a 4-3 loss to Shakopee. New Prague had just one singles win, from McCollister. The team of Meuwissen and Dresow took a win at doubles, as did Drew Smisek and Hartman.

Kubes, Cilibrasi and DeValk took losses in singles, as did Pleiss and Gillen.

Trojans 4, Panthers 3

New Prague got three wins in singles and picked up one more in doubles for the win over Spring Lake Park. Cilibrasi, Kubes and DeValk took wins, while the team of Drew Smisek and Hartman clinched things with a win at No. 3 doubles.

Mitch Fratzke lost in singles for the Trojans, as did Meuwissen/Dresow and Pleiss/Gillen in doubles.
