Trojan softball starts season 2-0

The New Prague Trojan softball team is 2-0 after winning their home opener Monday, April 29, against Faribault.

The Trojans dominated the game, winning 10-0 and giving them a 2- 0 start as they begin Missota Conference competition. The Trojans played at Farmington Tuesday, then will be at Shakopee on Friday, May 4. New Prague is at Holy Angels (Lincoln Field) at 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 8, and hosts Chaska on Thursday, May 9, at 3:15 p.m.

Last week New Prague defeated Willmar 12-2.

Trojans 12, Cardinals 2 Beginning their season in the Rosemount Irishdome, the Trojans pounded out a 12-2 win against Willmar. Maddie Giesen led the way for the Trojans in their opener, sparking the offense with four singles and two stolen bases while seniors AJ Hoffman and Katie Morris chipped in RBI's. In the circle, the Reed sisters turned in a sterling combined effort, each pitching three innings and striking out a combined 12 hitters. The team’s defense was flawless on the day.

Trojans 10, Falcons 0 In their home opener, New Prague began their season with a gem. Nichole and Brit Reed combined on a one-hit shutout, fanning 10 hitters over five innings while the Trojan defense remained perfect on the year.

Hoffman and Taylor Keohnen broke things open in the second inning, delivering clutch singles to drive in four runs to break a scoreless tie while Kelsey McFarland, Taylor Husted and Maddie Giesen chipped in RBIs to cap off another dominant performance.
