Trojan sports update

The New Prague Trojan boys hockey team ended its season with a 4-0 loss to Rochester Lourdes in the Section 1A semifinals Saturday in Rochester.

After a scoreless first period, the Eagles scored off a Trojan turnover in their own zone. Lourdes scored seven minutes into the third period to make it 2-0, then added a pair of late goals for the final margin. New Prague ends its season with an 18-9 record. Lourdes faces Red Wing for the section championship Thursday at the Rochester Rec Center.

The New Prague Trojan wrestlers were shut out of state tournament entries at the Section 2AA individual meet in Delano Saturday. Twelve of 13 Trojan entries placed in the top six, but the best finish was at 119 pounds, where Aaron Redding advanced to the finals, then lost in the championship match and again in the true second match to place third. Jay Reinke at 189 pounds, Morgan Parriott at 125 and Andy Underhill at 103 pounds, all placed fourth.

The New Prague High School girls basketball team ended its season with a 22-4 record and received the No. 1 seed for the Section 1AAA tournament, which begins Wednesday, Mar. 4. New Prague will host No. 8 seed Visitation at 7 p.m. The section semifinals are Saturday afternoon. New Prague, if they win, would play at 1 p.m. against either No. 4 Waseca or No. 5 Simley. Other first round games Wednesday have No. 2 Austin facing No. 7 Faribault and No. 3 Red Wing hosting No. 6 Albert Lea.
