Trojans eliminated in extra innings by Tigers

The New Prague Trojans had their chances, but lost both of their playoff games in the Section 1AAAA double elimination tournament, ending their season with a 9- 13 record.

The Trojans traveled to Rochester Mayo and took a 7-0 lead, but saw the Spartans score 13 runs to claim a 13-7 win Saturday, May 28.

On Monday, May 30, the squad traveled to Lakeville North and lost an elimination game to Farmington 7-6 in extra innings.

Spartans 13, Trojans 7 The Trojans jumped all over Rochester Mayo in the first two innings, scoring four in the first and three in the second to take a 7-0 lead. Carter Seymour had three hits and two RBIs, while Alex Gregor, Adam Meyer and Frank Bartyzal each had two hits for the Trojans. However starting pitcher Meyer left the game due to illness, after allowing a run in the second and two in the third. Mayo cut the lead to 7- 3 after three innings, then had a six-run fourth inning to put the game away. Seymour took the loss for the Trojans.

Tigers 7, Trojans 6 New Prague had plenty of opportunities, but left 15 runners on base in losing a nineinning game to Farmington 7-6 Monday, ending their season. The Tigers took a 3-0 lead off starter Nathan Berg.

The Trojans had several opportunities to score, but couldn’t get a run in until Berg’s single scored Alex Gregor in the bottom of the fifth.

The Trojans took the lead in the bottom of the sixth, with Frank Bartyzal leading off with a solo home run to left field on the first pitch of the inning. Connor Pint reached on an error and Bridger Hahn singled. Gregor sacrificed the runners, putting them both in scoring position, and Meyer, who had come on to pitch in the fifth inning, put himself in a position to win the game with a two-run single. The Trojans led 4-3 going into the bottom of the seventh.

New Prague had two nice defensive plays to start the top of the seventh. Shortstop Taylor Lambrecht took a bad hop off his chest, but recovered to throw out the runner, then left fielder Bridger Hahn made a diving catch for the second out. The Trojans were one out away from a win.

However a pair of errors resulted in the Tigers tieing the game, and another hit put them up 5-4.
