Trojans fall in 1AAAA baseball final

The New Prague Trojans held a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning, but couldn’t hold on and lost 5-4 to Lakeville North in the Section 1AAAA baseball championship Tuesday, June 6, in Dundas.
Trailing 1-0, New Prague tied it in the top of the second when Logan Reger scored on a throwing error.
North loaded the bases in the bottom of the second, but the Trojans escaped when second baseman Daniel Turner fielded a hard-hit grounder, threw to shortstop Nathan Berg for an out. Berg threw to first baseman Carter Seymour for the double play, then Seymour threw home to catcher Will Busch, who tagged the runner coming home for a triple play.
New Prague took the lead in the third when Seymour hit a hard shot that was misplayed, giving the Trojans two runs. They added another in the fourth when Berg reached base, was sacrificed to second by Jack Becker and scored on a base hit by Seymour.
Luke Zweber pitched six innings for the Trojans, allowing four runs. Busch came on in the seventh and allowed the unearned run that gave North the win.
New Prague finishes the season 12-11 after starting the season 1-6. Lakeville North (19-5) advances to the state tournament for the fifth straight season.
