Trojans open season with 4-1 win over No. 5 Mirage
The New Prague Trojan girls hockey team, ranked No. 9 in the Let’s Play Hockey preseason ratings, opened its season by making a statement.
The Trojans traveled to Proctor and handed the No. 5-ranked Proctor/Hermantown Mirage a 4-1 loss Saturday, Nov. 12.
"It was a great first game of the season," Coach Andrea Peterson said of her team’s effort. "We dominated play the first period, outshooting them 9-2 and felt great."
The Trojans took advantage of three Mirage penalties in the first period and got the game’s first goal when Emily Sabol scored on a power play, assisted by Catie Skaja at 6:09.
The Trojans added two goals midway through the second. Kaitlyn Blair scored on a Skaja assist on the power play at 8:57, and Shannon O’Rourke made it 3-0 at 9:35 with an unassisted goal.
Proctor/Hermantown turned on the heat in a wild first period that saw 49 total shots on goal, 29 for P/H and 20 for the Trojans. The Mirage got on the scoreboard at 4:51 of the period on a power play goal. The Trojans got the game’s final goal when.............
