Trojans, Raiders play to 1-1 tie

A goal just two minutes into the game by Kasey Marquardt nearly held up for the New Prague Trojans, but the Northfield Raiders kept firing and scored a goal with just four minutes left to force overtime, and the two Missota Conference rivals played to a 1-1 tie Tuesday, Dec. 9, at New Prague.

Marquardt's goal came with assists from Ashley Adams and Dani Kocina. New Prague outshot the Raiders 15-9 in the period and controlled the tempo in the first period.

The rest of the game was a wide-open, back-and-forth affair with both teams getting good scoring opportunities and outstanding goaltending. The Raiders finally got on the board at 12:51 of the third on a goal by Becca Schultz.

New Prague had plenty of chances to score in the game's final minutes. The Raiders committed two penalties late in the period, and killed off a 5-on-3 power play. The Raiders also killed off another power play in the overtime.

Shyler Sletta had another outstanding game in goal, stopping 41 of 42 shots as the Raiders outshot New Prague 42-37. Her Raider counterpart Samantha Stark stopped 36 shots.

The Trojans (5-2-1) were scheduled to play at Waseca Tuesday, Dec. 14, and will play Chanhassen/Chaska at Chaska Thursday, Dec. 16. The Trojans have two home games before their Christmas break, hosting Faribault at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, and Bloomington Jefferson Tuesday, Dec. 21.
