Trojans roll past Cards

A furious attack helped New Prague score four third period goals and another in overtime to complete a come-from-behind win over Luverne Saturday, Jan. 23. The win, and two others last week, gave New Prague a four-game winning streak, its best of the season, as the Trojans improved their record to 8-11-1 (4-4-1 Wright County Conference).

New Prague will host Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato on Friday, Jan. 29, then travel to Blake in a key Section 2A game on Tuesday, Feb. 2.

Trojans 6, Tigers 2 New Prague and Hutchinson combined for three goals in a 54-second span of the first period to give the Trojans a 2-1 lead after one period.

Zach Davis got the first goal, with his team playing a man short, at 10:07. Alex Gregor and Connor Pint had assists.

Hutchinson tied the game 25 seconds later with a power play goal, but the Trojans regained the lead on a goal by Isaac Fahrendorff, with Pint and Zach Skaja assisting.

Davis made it 3-1 with a goal at 2:59 of the second, with Gregor and Nathan Simon getting assists. New Prague led 3-2 late in the period when Gregor scored a power play goal, from Luke Witt and Davis, making it a 4-2 game after two periods.

The Trojans scored the only goals of the third, with Davis scoring on a power play at 3:41, from Gregor and Witt, and Kyle Skaja scoring at 9:19, from Fahrendorff and Zach Skaja.

The Trojans outshot Hutchinson 44-26, with freshman Collin Dorzinski making 24 stops for the win.

Trojans 5, Wildcats 4 Waconia came out strong, outshooting the Trojans 14-9 in the first period and taking a 2-1 lead. The Trojans' lone goal in the first came from Simon, assisted by Gregor and Davis.
