Trojans run 2nd at home meet

The New Prague Trojan boys cross country team hosted its home invitational Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the New Prague Golf Club.

The Trojans finished second of seven teams at the meet, finishing only behind state-ranked Red Wing.

"From start to finish, the Trojans competed very well and exceeded expectations," Coach Nick Meyer said. "Hayden DeGross, Noah Weichert, and Aiden Dorzinski all finished in the top 10. Ryker Huseby, Liam Fife, and Joe DeJong crossed in the top 20, with Carson Davis close.

"This was a huge step forward for the team, and it came on the strength of a strong belief in themselves backed up by teamwork throughout, focus in the middle, and drive to compete for every spot in the final stretches," Meyer said.

DeGross finished fourth overall, in a time of 17 minutes, 3.6 seconds. Weichert was next for New Prague, taking seventh in 17:16.7 and Dorzinski (10th, 17:25.3). Other Trojan finishers were Huseby (15th, 18:00), Fife (16th, 18:08) and DeJong (20th, 18:36). Carson Davis was 22nd (18:42).
