Trojans seeded 7th in 1AAA volleyball
New Prague was scheduled to host Winona in the Section 1AAA volleyball playoffs at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.
The Trojans (11-13-1) received the No. 7 seed among 17 teams in the section, while the Winhawks (8-19) were No. 10.
The tournament began Monday with an elimination game, with No. 17 LaCrescent playing at No. 16 Hastings. The winner of that game was scheduled to play at No. 1 Owatonna Wednesday.
Other first round games on Wednesday had No. 9 Rochester Century at No. 8 Rosemount, No. 12 Rochester John Marshall at No. 5 Faribault, No. 13 Waseca at No. 4 Rochester Mayo, No. 14 Austin at No. 3 Lakeville, No. 11 Farmington at No. 6 Northfield and No. 15 Albert Lea at No. 2 Red Wing.
Top-seed Owatonna was unranked in last week's state volleyball coaches poll, while No. 2 seed Red Wing and No. 3 seed Lakeville were tied for seventh.
Should New Prague win on Wednesday, they would play in the quarterfinals Friday against the winner of the Red Wing-Albert Lea match. The game will be played at the home of the higher seed, meaning New Prague would play at Red Wing or host Albert Lea.
Semifinals will be Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, with the championship set for Saturday, Nov. 6, also in Rochester. All matches start at 7 p.m.
