Trojans soar past Eagles to stop losing streak

The New Prague Trojan girls basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with an impressive 68-46 win at Bloomington Kennedy Tuesday, Dec. 13.

The Trojans led most of the way and built a 13-point half time lead. They maintained that lead most of the game and eventually pulled away to the 22-point win.

Seniors Taylor Hustad and Maizie Deihl led the way for New Prague with 26 and 20 points respectively. A third senior, Keegan Mulvihill, added 11 points. Also scoring for the Trojans were Sally Traxler (5), Emma Anderson and Amanda Giesen (2 each) and Sonia Thomas and Kate Seymore (1 each).

The Trojans shot 45.5 percent from the field, including 56 percent (9-of-16) from three-point range. Deihl had five three-pointers and Hustad four.

Hustad and McKenzie Holgate each collected five rebounds as the Trojans had a 32-30 edge on the boards. New Prague’s defense forced 29 Eagle turnovers, and those turnovers led to 29 Trojan points. Hustad and Mulvihill each had three steals and Deihl, Emily Schmitz and Emily Russo had two each.

The Trojans were scheduled to face Rochester Century Tuesday, Dec. 20. They will travel to Lakeville South on Thursday, Dec. 22.
