Two attend 80-year reunion
And then, there were two.
Long-time friends Leona Pittmann of Waterville and Ruth Nyquist of North Mankato recently gathered for their 80-year class reunion at The Cafe in Waterville.
The 1937 Waterville High School graduates were the only ones in attendance at the reunion.
“I think we’re the only ones left,” Leona stated of their 29-person graduating class.
"There might be a lady in Seattle and maybe a man in Colorado, but we haven't heard from them in quite some time. We're the only two we still know about," Ruth clarified.
In 2000, eight classmates attended the 63-year class reunion. After that, Leona and Ruth noticed the numbers dwindled rapidly and began organizing annual reunions.
"We'll both be 99 this spring, so I suppose there's a good chance that we're the last ones from our class," Leona stated. "Maybe it's because of all that walking we did back in high school."
