Two Trojans earn medals at state wrestling meet

Two New Prague Trojan wrestlers came home from the State Class AA wrestling tournament with medals. 

Freshman Griffin Parriott placed third at 120 pounds and junior Nathan Preston placed fourth. 

All four trojan wrestlers involved in the individual portion of the tournament made it to Saturday’s wrestlebacks. 

At 120 pounds, Griffin opened the day with a forfeit win over Zach Spychalla of Simley, then scored a 5-1 decision over Tyler Giza of Fergus Falls to advance to the third-place match, where he scored a 13-5 major decision over Logan Stiller of Monticello. Parriott has placed at state two years in a row after finishing second last year. He had a season record of 43-6. 

At 126 pounds sophomore James Berg lost his Saturday morning match to Tristan Manderfeld of Foley 5-0 and was eliminated. He finished the season with a 32-13 record. 

At 152 pounds senior Morgan Parriott, the school’s career wins leader, closed out his career with a loss to Walker Thiele of Totino-Grace, 3-0. He finishes with a 38-10 record. 

At 220 pounds Nathan Preston won his Saturday morning match with a 12-2 major decision over Max Kaping of Litchfield. He defeated Joe Schiller of Totino-Grace in the consolation semifinals, then lost by fall in 1:42 to Jacob Claybaugh of Waseca. Preston finished fourth and finished the season with a 38-8 record.
