Union Hill, Faribault win at state
The Dakota-Rice-Scott League remains unbeaten at 5-0 at the State Class C Baseball Tournament as Union Hill and Faribault advanced with wins on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Union Hill spotted Milroy a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but took charge form there, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second on their way to a 6-1 win in the State Class C Amateur Baseball Tournament in Hamburg Saturday. Brian Lindner drove in two runs and Nathan Berg had two hits for the Bulldgos in the win. Derek Masberg pitched 7-2/3 innings, allowing just five hits and striking out four. Montgomery draftee John Krocak pitched 1-1/3 innings of relief.
Union Hill faces either Carver or Dodge County at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, in Green Isle.
Also on Saturday, Matt Lane pitched a complete game and had three hits to lead Faribault to a 6-4 win over Midway in Green Isle. Lane struck out nine batters. Faribault will face defending state champion Raymond at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, in Norwood.
Two more DRS teams take the field Sunday, Aug. 27, in the state tournament, with both games in Norwood. New Prague faces Chokio at noon, with New Market taking on Kimball at 2:30 p.m.
