UPDATE: Lonsdale announces Community Days Grand Marshals
UPDATE 2:30 p.m.: The Montgomery Messenger and The New Prague Times have just learned that Dr. Hiner has passed away. His wife, Nancy is going to continue to be the Lonsdale Community Days Grand Marshal for Ross' memory. Funeral arrangements are pending.
The Lonsdale Area Chamber of Commerce had earlier announced on Friday, June 28, that Dr. Ross and Nancy Hiner are the Grand Marshals of the 2013 Lonsdale Community Days.
Dr. Hiner opened Lonsdale Family Dental in 1979 on Main Street, with his wife Nancy helping with the office and administrative details. For more than 20 years he has provided dental and orthodontic care to families in and around Lonsdale.
Ross and Nancy met at Concordia College, Moorhead, and the story is that Nancy picked up Ross when he was hitch hiking. They were married in 1977, and have two children, John and Krista.
They have also been very involved in the Lonsdale community through their involvement with Trondhjem Lutheran Church, and as a Lonsdale Chamber member.
In March, 2012, Ross was diagnosed with brain cancer and had to give up his dentistry practice. He has been in hospice care since April, 2013. In a statement from the Lonsdale Chamber, the board of directors said they are honored to be able to recognize Ross and Nancy for their long standing contributions to the Lonsdale area by naming them Grand Marshals 2013.
