Viola Weiers, 87

Viola E. Weiers, 87, of New Prague, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, at North M e m o r i a l Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

Viola was born on September 12, 1923, in Belle Plaine Township, Scott County, a daughter of Martin and Katherine (Michel) Neisen. A lifelong resident of the Union Hill/New Prague area and member of St. John’s Catholic Church at Union Hill, she attended Scott County District School in Belle Plaine Township. She married Norbert J. Weiers on June 9, 1943, at Union Hill. Viola was a homemaker and avid quilter who loved to visit with family and friends. She was a member of St. John’s Altar Society, St. John’s Church prayer chain and numerous card clubs. Viola had been a recipient of the Scott County Outstanding Senior Citizen Award.

She is survived by 11 children Shirley (Oscar) Budin, Montgomery, LeRoy (Bonnie), Shakopee, Rosemary (Richard) Schoenecker, Shakopee, Victor (Jonila), Jordan, Jerry (Janice), New Prague, Helen (Bud) Kager, New Prague, Donna (Dennis) Franek, Lyndon Station, WI, Bonnie (Dan) Valek, New Prague, Nancy (Albert) Simon, New Prague, Denie (Norm) Sticha, Elko New Market, and Lee (Debbie), New Prague; 33 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; two sisters Lucille Schmitz, New Prague, and Gertrude (Richard) Meger, Le Center; and sister-in-law Betty Neisen, Belle Plaine.

She was preceded in death by her husband on November 26, 2001; a daughter Laverne Weiers (in infancy, twin of Lee); three grandchildren Kevin Schoenecker, Norbert and Joseph Budin; greatgranddaughter Jillian Weiers; her parents; and five siblings Bert Neisen, Steven Neisen, Norbert Neisen, Cyrilla Klinkhammer and Leona Mager.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at 10 a.m., at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill, with Rev. David Barrett officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial.

Interment was at St. John’s Cemetery in Union Hill. Pallbearers were Viola’s sons LeRoy, Victor, Jerry and Lee.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.
