Volleyball team struggles at Farmington tourney

New Prague High School's volleyball team dropped its record to 3-9, going 1-3 at the Farmington Invitational tournament Saturday. Earlier in the week the Trojans lost a four-game match to Northfield to drop its Missota record to 1-1.

The Trojans swept Mankato West Tuesday, Sept. 21. (Details in next week's issue of The Times.) On Thursday, Sept. 23, New Prague plays at Chaska, then on Tuesday, Sept. 28, they host Mankato East. New Prague faces defending state champion Shakopee at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, in the Trojan gym.

Raiders 3, Trojans 0

New Prague lost a Missota Conference match to Northfield Thursday, Sept. 16, at the New Prague gym. Scores were 25-11, 25-16, 23-25, 25-21, as New Prague began playing with confidence as the match went on.

The Trojans' Amber Hoffman had a spectacular match serving, going 19 of 20 and collecting five aces. She started two big runs that led to the Trojans' win in game 3 and had another good run in the fourth game. Sydney Foss and Sara Rookaird also served well for the Trojans. Rookaird recorded 22 assists in the match.

The Trojans had a balanced attack as Rookaird spread the ball out from her setter position. Foss had seven kills and Makayla Reimers, Rochelle Koehnen and Lexi Ruehling had five each.

Defensively, Foss had 11 digs and Hoffman, Stephie Busch, Maggie Seter and Rookaird each had six. Reimers had seven blocks and Foss four for the Trojans.

Farmington Tournament

Giants 2, Trojans 0

New Prague lost their first round match in the Farmington Tournament to Le Sueur-Henderson, ranked No. 6 in Class AA, by scores of 25-13, 25-19. Rookaird led the Trojans with three kills, eight assists and five digs, while Hoffman also had five digs and Busch three kills.

Blazers 2, Trojans 0

The Trojans lost to Visitation in the second round at Farmington, 25-17, 27-25. Rookaird had two aces, 10 assists and 12 digs, Foss had five kills and Ruehling had two blocks.

Eagles 2, Trojans 0

New Ulm defeated the Trojans in the third round, 25-17, 25-20. Foss had five kills and Reimers four, while Foss had 11 digs and Hoffman seven.

Trojans 2, Spartans 1

The Trojans salvaged a win in the final game of the Farmington Tournament, defeating Richfield 25-27, 25-22, 15-4. Rookaird had three aces and 26 assists. Foss led the attack with 11 kills while Koehnen had seven and Ruehling six. Hoffman had nine digs, while Elly Reinke and Foss had eight each. Reinke and Reimers both had blocks.
