Volleyball team wins 2, loses 2 at Farmington

The New Prague Trojan volleyball team went to 1-2 in the Missota Conference with a loss to Holy Angels last week, then split four matches in placing 10th out of 16 teams at the Farmington Invitational.

New Prague hosted Mankato East on Tuesday, their second match with the Cougars in 10 days. On Thursday, Sept. 18, they play at Hutchinson, then play at Farmington Tuesday, Sept. 23. The Trojans host Northfield Thursday, Sept. 25.

Stars 3, Trojans 0

New Prague was swept by Holy Angels Thursday, Sept. 11. The Trojans kept each game relatively close, but couldn't stop the Stars, losing 25-18, 26-24, 25-22.

Hannah Strop and Maggie Weiers topped the Trojans with seven kills each, while Kyla Schapekahm had 15 digs. Strop had three blocks, Weiers two and Brit Rynda one. Anissa Svoboda had 13 assists and was a perfect 13 of 13 serving.

Farmington Tournament

Saints 2, Trojans 0

The Trojans lost to St. Charles 25-23, 25-19, and the loss was costly as Strop went down with an ankle injury.

Weiers led the Trojans with seven kills. Svoboda had six digs and Weiers and Hannah Rybak had five each. Rynda had two blocks and Strop and Weiers had one each.

Svoboda and Shelby Dugas were both perfect serving and each had one ace. Svoboda added 12 assists.

Trojans 2, Polars 0

New Prague rebounded from the first-round loss with a tight 25-23, 26-24 win over North St. Paul.

Weiers had seven kills and Rybak six for the Trojans, while Rynda had seven digs. Weiers had two blocks. Schapekahm, Jess Hoffman and Rybak each had an ace, and Hoffman had an 83 percent serve reception rating. Svoboda had 12 assists.

Trojans 2, Bears 1

New Prague dropped the first game to White Bear Lake but came back to win games 2 and 3 to advance to the consolation championship game. Scores were 19-25, 25-21, 16-14.

Weiers had seven kills and Rynda five to lead the Trojan attack. Svoboda had six digs and Weiers five. Weiers also had two blocks and Kalee Torp had one. Six different Trojans had aces, with Rynda getting two and five others one each. Svoboda had 13 assists and Rybak added four.

Jaguars 2, Trojans 0

The Trojans lost to Jordan, ranked no. 3 in Class AA, by a 25-14, 25-10 score in the consolation championship game at Farmington.

Rybak had five kills and Weiers four for the Trojans. Weiers added four digs and Rynda had the team's only block.

Hoffman and Rynda led the team in serve receptions, while Svoboda had two aces and nine assists. Schapekahm also had an ace.

Coach Emily Jasperson said while the Trojans played three games without Strop, the whole team played well.
