Volleyball team wins Missota opener

New Prague defeated Holy Angels in three games Thursday to open their Missota Conference schedule. Over the weekend the Trojans competed in a tournament in Mankato, going 1-2, with all three matches being 1-1 splits and going to tiebreakers to determine the winner. The Trojans lost to Rosemount on Monday, Sept. 13, in a non-conference match.

New Prague will host Northfield at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16. On Saturday they compete in the Farmington Invitational, a 16-team tournament. Their first round opponent will be Le Sueur-Henderson, which is ranked No. 6 in the State Class AA poll. New Prague travels to Mankato West on Tuesday, Sept. 21, and to Chaska on Thursday, Sept. 23.



Trojans 3, Stars 0

New Prague swept Holy Angels in their Missota Conference opener, 25-19, 26-24, 25-14 Thursday, Sept. 9, in Richfield.

Holy Angels led in all three games, including a 23-22 lead in game 2, but the Trojans reasserted themselves each time Holy Angels made a run and stopped the Stars' momentum.

New Prague served at an 89 percent clip, with Hailey Dolezal a perfect 10 of 10, Sydney Foss had five aces and Sara Rookaird three.

Rookaird had 16 set assists, with Foss getting 9 kills, Stephie Busch four and Makayla Reimers and Rochelle Koehnen three each.



Mankato Tournament

New Prague faced Mankato West, Cedar Mountain and United South Central in pool play in the Mankato tournament and each game resulted in a 1-1 split. New Prague did not advance out of pool play.

Against West, the Trojans took a 26-24 win over the Scarlets in the first game, but lost 25-21 in the second. The Trojans had 9-of-9 serving from Maggie Seter, Rookaird and Foss, with Dolezal having two aces. Rookaird had 11 assists and Foss seven kills.

The Trojans defeated Cedar Mountain in the first game of their match 25-23, but the Cougars won the second game 25-14. Foss had six kills and three blocks.

New Prague defeated United South Central 25-20 in game one, but the Rebels won game two 25-23. Rookaird was 13-of-13 serving with two aces and had 16 assists. Foss had 10 kills, Hoffman had seven digs and Elly Reinke had three blocks.

Irish 3, Trojans 1

In Monday's loss to Rosemount, the Irish won the first two games, 25-17, 25-20, but the Trojans came back to take game three 28-26 before dropping game four 25-13.

Rookaird had 13 assists in the game, with Foss and Reimers getting four kills each. Seter had nine digs for the Trojans and Reinke and Ruehling each had two blocks.
