Waconia shuts out Trojans in 2AAAAA playoffs

The New Prague Trojan football season ended Tuesday Oct. 25, with a 35-0 loss to Waconia in the first round of the Section 2AAAAA playoffs.
Playing on a rainy night on a slick field, the Trojans couldn’t get their offense on track, gaining only 68 yards for the game, four passing and 64 on the ground.
New Prague could not stop Waconia running back Justin Schultz. The Wildcats had 244 yards of total offense, with Schultz netting 216 of those on 30 rushing attempts.
Waconia scored on their second possession late in the first quarter. Waconia scored again shortly before halftime when the Trojans fumbled inside their own five yard line and the Wildcats picked up the ball and scored. They led 14-0 at halftime.
The Trojans were hoping to change momentum in the second half, but that didn’t work out. After New Prague went 3-and-out on its first possession, Waconia scored on its first play of the half on a 49-yard run by Schultz. The Trojans were forced to punt on their next series, but a high snap resulted in a blocked kick that was returned for a touchdown. Waconia added one more score late in the third to make the final 35-0.
New Prague ends its season with a 2-7 record. Waconia goes to 7-2 and will play at Mankato West at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. In the other section quarterfinal game, Chaska defeated Bloomington Jefferson 48-34. The Hawks (6-3) play at Chanhassen Saturday.
Saturday’s winners will play in the Section 2AAAAA championship game Friday, Nov. 4.
