Wilbert F. Shimota, 88

Wilbert F. Shimota, age 88, of Webster, died suddenly at his home on Monday, February 12, 2018.  Wilbert was born on November 3, 1929 at the home farm in Cedar Lake Township to Frank W. and Anna J. (Trenda) Shimota.  He attended Most Holy Trinity Parochial School, Scott County District School, and graduated from New Prague High School.  On September 6, 1952, Wilbert married the love of his life, Caroline P. Novak in Veseli and the couple made their home on the family farm, where they resided for the past 66 years.  During this time, they raised seven children, who he affectionately referred to as “The Lucky 7”.  Wilbert was a devoted farmer (crop and dairy) and was very proud of their Century Farm.  He cared deeply about everything he did no matter how big or small.  He was meticulous about his crops, machinery, animals, and buildings; he never stopped working until the job was done.  Wilbert had an unwavering Christian faith, fabulous sense of humor, and ingenious creativity when it came to problem solving.  He was a member of the Most Holy Trinity Church Men’s Club in his early years.  He loved old time music and on special occasions played the concertina for his family.  Las Vegas was a favorite travel destination over the years but local family gatherings with lots of food, laughter, and story-telling were what he enjoyed most.

Wilbert is survived by his wife, Caroline of Webster; children, Al (Joyce) Shimota of Prior Lake, Karen (Bob) Pexa of New Prague, Gary (Arlys Hoffman) Shimota of St. Thomas, Susan (Steve) Hackett of Ellendale, Carol Sery of New Prague, Fritz (Deb) Shimota of Webster, Lori Pistulka of Lakeville; brother, Leonard A. (Rita) Shimota of Hugo; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; special feline friend, Francis.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Thursday, February 15, 2018, at 10:00 AM at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Veseli with Father John Lapensky officiating.  Visitation will take place Wednesday from 4-8 PM and Thursday morning from 7:30 – 9:30 at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Burial will occur at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Veseli, followed by lunch at the Lonsdale Legion Club.  bruzekfuneralhome.com
