Wilcoxes named Dozinky grand marshals

On Monday, June 17, the New Prague Chamber of Commerce announced that Dr. Mike and Kay Wilcox have been named the 2013 Grand Marshals for Dozinky, New Prague’s Czech harvest festival.

The couple has been living in New Prague for 40 years and has been active in the community in many ways. Mike has been very influential in the medical community. He began in New Prague as a physician at Parkview Medical Clinic. He has also worked closely with the New Prague Ambulance Service and its successor, North Memorial Ambulance.

He and Dr. George Winn were instrumental in helping bring Electromed Inc. to New Prague. The company designs, manufactures and markets vests that, through vibrations, help clear airways.

Kay served on the New Prague City Council for 20 years and was instrumental in the development of the city’s parks and sidewalk systems. She was also the council representative on the Planning Commission and helped with everything from businesses to churches to schools. Kay also helped spearhead the building of the New Prague Community Pool.

The Wilcoxes have been supporters and charter members of various organizations in the community from the arts to the New Prague Area Historical Society.

The couple has raised seven children, all adopted, and now have five grandchildren with another on the way.

"We’ve been very blessed to be part of New Prague," said Mike. "It’s been a great community to bring up our family. There have been great opportunities for me and Kay."
