William (Bill) E. Howlett III

Bill Howlett, 50, of Shoreview, MN passed away on January 1 surrounded by family, after a brave and inspiring battle with prostate cancer.
Bill’s Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Eagle Brook Church, Lino Lakes, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Therese at St. Odilia Shoreview, MN are preferred.
Bill was born on March 18, 1966, in Shoreview to William Jr. and Audrey (Styx) Howlett. He graduated from Centennial High School in Circle Pines in 1984 and St. Cloud State University in 1989 with a degree in Education. From 1991-1996, he taught Social Studies at Benilde-St. Margaret’s in St. Louis Park and was the Varsity Girls’ Hockey coach. From 1996-2001, he taught Social Studies and Drivers Ed at Centennial High School, and was the Varsity Girls’ Volleyball Coach. From 2001-2005, he was the Dean of Students at Spring Lake Park High School. During this time he received his Masters in Education and Administration Licensure from St. Mary’s University in 2005. From 2005-Present he was an Assistant Principal at Stillwater High School. 
Bill had a knack for connecting with kids, both in and out of school. For the past 10 years he has coached both of his sons’ basketball and soccer teams. He was a board member with the Mounds View Basketball Association where he developed an in-house basketball program for boys and girls that don’t make it on a high school team. He was also an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
 
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Donna (Janovsky) Howlett, daughter of Don and Kathi Janovsky of this city; sons, William IV (Billy), 19, a freshman at North Dakota State University in Fargo, and Benjamin, 14, an eighth-grader at Chippewa Middle School in North Oaks; sisters, Renee (Rob Ricci) Howlett of Lino Lakes, Michele (Mike) Warren of Vadnais Heights, and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
