Win streak ends at 7, but girls bounce back with win over Shakopee

New Prague’s girls basketball team saw its 7-game unbeaten streak come to an end with a 66-58 loss at Holy Angels Friday. Earlier in the week, New Prague had no problem dispatching Shakopee, winning 65-45.

The Trojans (6-2 in the conference, 12-6 overall) were scheduled to host Hutchinson on Tuesday, Feb. 7. On Friday, Feb. 10, they play at Northfield. They return home Tuesday, Feb. 14, for their final home game against Farmington. They close out the regular season with three road games, beginning February 16 at Red Wing.

Trojans 65, Sabers 45

New Prague used a balanced scoring attack to build a 12-point halftime lead on their way to a 65-45 win over Shakopee Tuesday, Jan. 31, at New Prague.

Whitney Trecker had nine first half points, Katelyn Meger eight and Camille Kratochvil and Becky Theisen seven each for New Prague. Shakopee’s offense was one-dimensional, as sophomore Casey Christian scored 15 points, more than half her team’s total in the first half.

The Trojans shut down Christian in the second half, holding her to a single field goal. The Trojans continued to play strong team defense, holding Shakopee to just 17 points in the second half.

The Trojans had 15-point efforts from Mandy Haecherl and Theisen. Meger finished with 12 points.

Stars 66, Trojans 58

New Prague held a 9-point lead over the Stars at halftime, but couldn’t hold on as the Stars surged to an eight-point win Friday at Richfield.

Trecker had 13 points and Haecherl 12 in the first half of this game, but in the second half, the Trojans struggled at the free throw line. They had seven misses. Trecker finished with 21 points, but was seven of 16 from the line. Haecherl finished with 15 and Meger with 13.

Holy Angels had a balanced attack, with four players in double figures, none with more than 13 points.
