Winifred Turek, 90

Winifred B, Turek, 90, of New Prague, died on Friday, July 23, 2004, at Three Links Care Center in Northfield.

A lifetime resident of the New Prague area, Winifred was born on December 17, 1913, to Joseph and Angela (Lochen) Busch in Derrynane Township, Le Sueur County. She attended the Union Hill School and was a 1931 graduate of New Prague High School. Winifred attended Mankato Normal College training after which she began teaching. She returned to Mankato State College to complete her baccalaureate degree while she was teaching.

Winifred Turek and Earl Turek were married at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill on July 3, 1941. Winifred was employed as a school teacher at Union Hill, St. Benedict, New Market and New Prague schools. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Aid, St. Wenceslaus CCW, St. Wenceslaus Martha Choir and the National Education Association.

She is survived by one sister, Lillian Schoenecker, New Prague; one sister-in-law, Maxine Busch, Bloomington; and many nieces and nephews.

Winifred was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Turek, on July 15, 2002; her parents, Joseph and Angela (Lochen) Busch; seven brothers, Nick, Robert, Ferdinand, Joseph, Otto, Werner and Walter Busch; and one sister, Antoinette Seurer.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with the Rev. Larry Johnson officiating.

Pallbearers were Ben Selinske, Thomas and Jarrod Schoenecker, Dr. John Dvorak, Jim Busch and Al Hennen.

Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in New Prague.

Visitation was at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday before the services. A rosary was said at 7 p.m. on Monday.
